Doug Ashford

Doug Ashford is a teacher, artist and writer. His is currently Associate Professor at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York where he has taught design, sculpture, and theory for over twenty years and a visiting instructor at The Yale University School of Art. Ashford’s principle art practice from 1982-96 was as a member of the artists’ collaborative Group Material whose internationally produced exhibitions, public projects and publications redefined the role of art in imagining democratic life. Since that time Ashford has gone on to make paintings, write, and produce independent public projects. His most recent publication is Who Cares (2006), a book project built from a series of conversations between cultural practitioners on public expression, beauty, and ethics. Ashford’s recent exhibitions of paintings include the Sharjah Biennial 10, (2011), Abstract Possible, Malmo Konsthall; Museo Tamayo and Tensta Konstahall (2011-2012) and dOCUMENTA 13 (2012)
