Mai Shirato was born in Sapporo, Japan, and studied at the Hokkaido University of Education in the Visual Design laboratory of the Department of Arts and Culture. She is now completing her Bachelor’s degree at the University of the Fine Arts/HFBK in Hamburg. Her focus is on interactive design, participatory installation, and performative action in the field of contemporary art. Her interactive projects use daily necessities to put an emphasis on relational objects, i.e., objects that establish relationships between the user and the object. She participated as graphic designer in The Common Roof Kitchen project in Fittja.
