Mary Jo Toles

Mary Jo Toles is a Professor of Photography, currently residing in Cleveland, Ohio. She has been working with high-voltage imaging since 1971, when she discovered an article in a Russian scientific journal on Kirlian photography, and built her first apparatus for imaging with the assistance of a translator and an electrician. Her work is an ongoing investigation through process and materials. These investigations through series provide an extensive format in order to scrutinize details and focus attention on aspects and relationships of bits of experience of this world; This work often involves language, dichotomy, paradox – a world in an active, engaging state of constant change and chaos.
